When I started this column, I wrote April and then realized we have a new month already. Our Rummage and Bake Sale at the United Methodist Church will be this Saturday, May 7, starting at 8 p.m. Thankfully we got the tent put up before the rain, the long range forecast was for lots of rainy days. We do need the rain as it seems rather dry for everything, we also need some warmer weather. That north wind has been a bit cold to be outside to do much work, or at least for me.
4/17, The Youth Weekend for hunting turkeys, Gracie Lanphear and a relative were going into the woods early in the morning to get to their turkey blind and had heard a lot of rustling in the woods ahead of them. They thought it was deer, but to find out later as the darkness disappeared that it was a bear. A mother bear and her year old cub were up a tree and they stayed there for several hours. Grampa Cedric took a video of the bear and Gracie showed me pictures that she had taken. She was within 10-15 feet from the tree that the bear had decided to take cover in, and she was not aware of them in the tree until later when it became light enough to see around. Brave young lady!!!
