Keith Sampietro and his 8 year old granddaughter Brianna Marshall entered the Burke Mountain Sled Dog Dash on February 8-March 1, as their first dog sled race.  Keith came in fourth in the 6 dog sportsman, and Brianna came in third in the one dog junior class.  Mt. Haven sleddogs of Montgomery are on their way to N.H. this weekend and hope to bring back more awards.  Keith and Lori are in hopes of raising their own sled dogs here in the Deep Gibou, their female Natasha was given to them by a friend, and Iditarod runner Bruce Linton, before returning to Alaska.  Their male dog Naugh/Tuc came from friends

Joe and Pam Reddington, of Manley Hot Springs, Alaska.  Joe’s father is the founder of the Iditarod in honor of the famous men who ran it, not as a race, but to bring medicine to a town closed off from the rest of the world, who’s children were dying from diphtheria.  Keith, has made his own sleds.  They now have two new husky pups, that they picked up in Pennsylvania.  It is their hope to show the community that their own pet, can be kept in good shape while showing kids a new respect for their pet.  Our granddaughter can show you how much fun a kid with only one can have.  Dog sledding is starting to become more popular in Vermont, and we would like to be able to help people get reconnected with the out doors, in a quiet and enjoyable way.  No motors, no gas, just good clean fun.

Students of the month from our school:  The kindergarten through third grade team would like to acknowledge the following students for months January and February 2009, for their persistence in their school work and class behavior!  Kindergarten Zoe Raymond, Grade 1 Gabriel Lagasse, Grade 2 Clair Ellis, Grade 3 Elijah Niles-Racusin.   Congratulations and keep up the good work.  (C. Johnson, M.Ed.)

What a gorgeous weekend for the Carpenter’s (Charlie and Pat) annual snow-party and pot-luck food.  Each year the family gathers at their camp on Hill West Road with all the spouses, grandchildren and friends, they all bring their favorite outdoor rides and have a great weekend, they usually have around 100 plus that come.  This weekend that had predicted showers has turned out to be a fantastic weekend for any out door activities.

The Ham Dinner at St.Isidore’s was very delicious and a good turn out, there was plenty of food and could have fed more but we are always thankful for the ones that come.  Thanks to all that prepared, cooked and worked at the dinner.  Note:  Father Hahr’s Bible Study is held every Thursday evening after the 6 p.m. mass.

The 50 card club winner’s were Denise Mercy and Gary Baker.

Happy Birthday to Jennifer Domina & Ryland Purrier 3/15, Annie Purrier 3/16, Aidan Smith 3/18, Jim Poirier & Avery Stanley 3/19, Normand Lessard, and Emily and Maggie Coolidge 3/21.
