Here I am to finish up my column for the week, I keep notes and early in the morning before going to church I have a chance to get most of it written while the house is so quiet. It has been a spectacular day just perfect to enjoy anything you want to do..90 degrees again. Joanne Lanphear stopped by to pick up ads to put around Richford for our Rummage Sale which is fast approaching October 6 at the United Methodist Church. Then Joanne, Penny, Sonny and I sat around and visited for awhile.
9/11.. The Ladies 500 Card Club met at the beautiful home of Marge Cummings, she had invited everyone for noon luncheon and had prepared food of Red,White and Blue in memory of this day. She had potato salad, her husband grilled burgers for us, and there were all kinds of fresh veggies and condiments, beverages and blueberry cobbler or carrot cake for dessert. We were all stuffed and ready to play cards just before one. Marge stuck to her theme of Red, white and blue and had score cards of America The Beautiful for each of us. We started dealing out the cards and heard many saying they did not receive good hands to bid or the kitty was awful, but no matter what someone always gets good hands and sub Rita St.Onge had high score (3340); second high was Linda Van Gieson (2870); and low score was sub Roberta Morin with (590) actually there were several of us with low score; most horses (3) went to our hostess Marge. We will meet at the Dairy Center on October 9th at 11:30 a.m. with Lois Lumbra as your hostess.
9/12..Eight members of the Green Mountain Ruby Reds had planned to meet at 11:30 a.m. at Burger Barn in Jeffersonville. It was a warm, sunny day to be outside and enjoy the fresh air. Then for dessert some went for a maple creemee before returning home. Our food was delicious and plentiful!!! When we arrived in Jeffersonville we were not sure just where to go and there was a lady pushing her great grandsons around we stopped and asked for directions and SHE was someone I knew from back in High School, Susan Gates Perry, she graduated with my sister. She came by while we were waiting for our food and had a nice chat and she was interested in getting a Red Hat Group started in her area.
9/14..Maggie Elkins, and sisters Joanne Kane, Gracie Jones met at Susie Ewins home for their monthly get-together to have lunch and play cards for the day. Susie had prepared many of their Mother’s favorite dishes as they grew up, like salmon-pea-wiggle, Mom’s Christmas salad, etc. They had lots of sisterly laughter and fun-fun-fun. Joanne will soon be leaving up this way and heading to Florida for the winter months.
9/15..The Enosburg High School Class of 1961 met at the home of Stanley and Penny Wright on Main Street in Enosburg. Everyone bringing Pot-Luck to share with one another. Maggie Elkins told me there were around 30 in attendance. The day was perfect to lounge around outside with plenty of sunshine and a nice breeze as they shared good times and keeping up with one another’s life. They plan to meet annually as most live in Vermont, travelling the furthest was Vance Oligny from California. It was a relaxing afternoon and everyone had an enjoyable time.
